Autumn at The Stables and Henhouse

Autumn is ideal for getting active and The Stables and Hen House are the perfect base for getting out and about.

Walking is really popular with our guests and it doesn’t get much better than around here – whether is half an hour or half a day the walking is varied and interesting with lots to see and some really fabulous landscapes and  Savernake Forest will be at its best in a few weeks time.

This year we’ve also welcomed several groups of riders  for a “holiday with your horse” – guests bring their horses along and they sleep and eat in the field behind the cottages (the horses that is!) and go off riding across the Wiltshire downs and through the local woodland. We can help with the route planning and provide maps and most of the rides avoid the roads altogether. Our last horsey guests were blown away by the stunning landscape and views and varied wildlife they saw when out riding and are already planning a return trip next year.

We also welcome anyone with a bike as the cycling around here is fabulous – on road, off road, canal tow path and forest tracks we seem to be able to keep most cyclists happy. We can provide secure bike lock up and bike washing facilities and are more than happy to point you in the right direction for the best routes around . And if the weather turns there is still plenty to do  – lovely market towns to browse away a  morning and  plenty of good pubs and restaurants for a long lunch or just turn up the heating and curl up with a good book! Short breaks are available throughout the Autumn and Winter.
