Six reasons you will want to stay this autumn

One: Savernake Forest will be at its best
Savernake is an amazing Forest to visit any time of the year but in the Autumn it is even more incredible – the leaves will be changing and the fungi will be pushing up from the forest floor creating a colourful display of nature at its best.

Two: Walking and riding in the Pewsey Vale
The walking around the Pewsey Vale is awesome particularly in the Autumn – wonderful circular routes across beautiful downland with big skies and incredible views. We can provide route maps and ideas whether you want to walk a mile or 10 (or more!).

Three: The fantastic local pubs
We are close to some great local pubs, combine some walking with a pub lunch or a relaxing evening out to sample great local produce and a warm Wiltshire welcome. Here are a few of our favourites:

The Swan at Wilton – 1 mile from The Stables and the Hen House

The George at Vernham Dean – wood fired pizza from their retro van

The Crown and Anchor at Ham – newly reopened and beautifully refurbished and great food too

Four: Things on in September
The Beam Engines at Crofton (www.croftonbeamengines.org) and Wilton Windmill (www.wiltonwindmill .co.uk) are both open during September and are just a mile from The Stables and The Hen House. A bit further afield there’s Marlborough Lit Fest (26th to 29th September), Salisbury Cathedral sculpture exhibition and Still Digging exhibition at Avebury runs throughout September.

Five: Holiday with your horse
Bring your horse or horses along and explore the miles and miles of fantastic downland riding right from the door. We can provide turn out for horses and help with route planning.

And finally…

Six: The temperature should be just right…
For getting out and about – not too hot and not too cold but perfect for exploring the amazing National Heritage sites of Stonehenge and Avebury – and there will be less people here too!
